Summary

Relief work abroad and in the UK.

Description

The MWI aims and objectives are to establish short-term and long-term projects in developing countries in the fields of education, medicine, welfare and relief, rehabilitation and other projects which benefit the people in their time of need.

In addition to our relief work abroad, we also have some key projects in the UK, namely our ‘Fostering and Adoption’ and ‘Hardship Assistance’ programmes.

Fostering and Adoption:

The role of the MWI is to create awareness of adoption and fostering by holding awareness and recruitment events here in the North West.

Seminars have been held in Blackburn, Bolton, Burnley, Preston and Rochdale over the years.

These events are held in partnership with local authorities or local adoption and fostering agencies. Information is shared by professionals with the participants. We also invite foster carers and adopters to give a first-hand report of their experiences. Adoptees have also spoken at events. For those interested, staff from the relevant departments are at hand to register their interest.

Hardship Assistance programme UK:

In August 2020, 10 refugee families were provided with a cash grant of £350 each to assist them buy daily basic necessities. The families are from Albania, Burma, Ivory Coast, Pakistan and Russia. The funding was provide by Wifaqul Ulama UK who collect funds to assist families facing hardships here in the UK.

Donors who would like to donate their donation specifically for families in the UK are more than welcome to do so. All types of donations are acceptable for this programme.

In September 2020, it was brought to our attention that over 100 refugees are staying in a closed down hotel in Southport. With the assistance of a local family, we managed to provide 100 hot meals to these families on Friday 25th September. Once again, financial support was provided by Wifaqul Ulama in addition to our own funds as well.

The cost to provide 100 hot meals is £500. We intend to provide this assistance at least once weekly and if possible and funding allows, to increase upon this.
