Summary

A health platform to empower individuals through knowledge and evidence-based practice and promote a fairer, more holistic approach to healthcare.

Description

Happy Wise Well was founded by Dr Farhana Rahman, General Practitioner in London. A BSc in Medical Anthropology that laid the foundations for a lifelong interest in holistic health.  It transformed her outlook on life and the world around us, culminating in fieldwork on the mind/body dichotomy that has shaped her medical practice to this day. The inextricable link between emotional wellbeing and physical and mental health became plainly clear when she started working as a GP.

Happy Wise Well is a health platform to explore this further and share knowledge with a wider audience.  Farhana blogs about holistic health developments and research to empower individuals through knowledge and evidence-based practice.  This specialist interest is being formalised with a diploma in  Lifestyle Medicine due for completion this year.  This provides the tools to work with patients on an individual level so that through a combination of solid evidence-based interventions and coaching, they can harness their inner resources to facilitate change.  This journey is being shared on Happy Wise Well so that readers can access these tools as well.

For truly sustainable change, this approach needs to be done alongside higher policy level engagement to ensure fair and equitable access to better health and healthier choices.  Happy Wise Well is committed to engaging with relevant organisations to make this possible.

Opportunities to get involved

Recent work has centred around the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on BAME communities.  An organic response to tragedy, 'Lifting Lockdown: Tips from A GP' is a guide that was published to empower vulnerable groups with the framework to manage risk in the pandemic as restrictions are being eased https://bit.ly/LiftingLockdownGPGuide. This has gone on to be very well received and is forming the basis for a number of projects including work with a team of linguistic experts at Kings College London to produce videos of the guide to target oral language communities who are currently being missed with written communication, as well as a social prescribing community project. If you think there are ways to engage and mediate this information - whether about lockdown or holistic health in general - in the space that you work or engage in, please get in touch.  I would love to collaborate with you.
